Multifaceted Danny Combs is a Grammy award-winning music teacher and nationally recognized recording artist. Danny is the youngest artist to write and record for the Grammy winning label, Solid Air Records. He balances his time between his love for teaching music and composing instrumental guitar music.
Danny has a Bachelors degree in music and a Masters degree in teaching music. He has many years of teaching experience and has taught in many settings from: public inner city high school, Montessori, private academy, individual private lessons, and Skype lessons (including some famous recordings artists and guitar builders). In 2011, he won a Grammy Enterprise award for his teaching at Glencliff High School in Nashville, TN. Danny was published in Acoustic Guitar Magazine and he served on the board of Music4TN Kids where he helped raise over $100,000 for music education programs in Middle TN. He also co-wrote the guitar curriculum adopted by all the Davidson county public schools in Nashville. Currently, he is writing a classroom guitar textbook that will be published soon.
Composing guitar music is something Danny loves to do, and his music and technical abilities are widely recognized. He has released two albums, “Guitar Out Front” and “Chasing Guitar,” both on Solid Air Records, the prestigious guitar-centric label headquartered in Seal Beach, CA. Danny is honored to be on the same label with such world-renowned guitarists as Laurence Juber, Al Petteway, Jim Earp, Doug Smith and Tommy Emmanuel. His albums have received acclaim from both from critics and fans alike. The Nashville City Paper wrote, “Combs emphasizes melodic development, pacing and grabbing listeners through complete presentation rather than flashes and fireworks…clearly a master technician.” The success of these albums brought invitations to perform at world famous guitar gatherings, such as the Newport Guitar Festival and the Healdsburg Festival. He has also performed at large concert halls, including the Hard Rock and the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, where he opened for country star Faith Hill.
Always looking for new challenges, Danny was the Instrumental Editor for the acclaimed Christian Life Hymnal (The Accompanist Edition), he was commissioned to write the jingle for the newly reformed Studebaker Motor Company, and he performed studio work with indie and major artists on Sony Records. He also proudly performed with the worship band at St. Bartholomew’s Church, voted “Best Church Band” by the Nashville Scene, for seven straight years.
Danny is proud to be endorsed by several highly respected music companies, such as GHS Strings, Ultrasound Amps, Recording King Guitars, K&K pickups and Worlatron Electric Guitars.
Currently, he resides with his wife, Claire, and their children, Dylan and Ellie, in Colorado where he teaches and continues to write guitar music.
